about

Freeway was written as an instrumental in the mid-eighties. In 1986 We met singer Jim Chavez so I wrote lyrics for this song specifically for Jim's voice. We recorded these vocal tracks in a cellar on a four track Teac A3440 at that time. The instruments on this version were recorded in 2021. The vocals are the original tracks we recorded in 1986. These were the very first layered vocal tracks we ever recorded for one of our songs. As naïve as the lyrics are they still resonate with some.... - Tenk

lyrics

there's something about the open highway
feel the freedom moving through the air
pick up a friend who's going my way
we'll know where we're going when we're there

cruising on the freeway with a friend
rolling down the highway till the end
cruisin on the backroads
till the end

the music almost seems to move you
the engine hums, the road goes roaring by
feel excitement building in you
take your problems kiss their ass goodbye

cruising on the freeway with a friend
rolling down the highway till the end
cruisin on the backroads
till the end

cruising on the freeway with a friend
rolling down the highway till the end
cruisin on the backroads
till the end

there's something about the open highway
we'll know where we're going when we're there

about

Temple of Switches California

"The two mainstays throughout are sections with an often subtle but distinct jazz flavoring applied to them, sometimes from bass and drums, on other occasions by way of the keyboards, and here and there we are treated to almost purebred jazz-oriented music too. The other red thread throughout, albeit perhaps on a slightly lesser note, are quirky, subtly atonal instrument details" Progmessor 5/2021 ... more
